Statement of Understanding for Third Party
and Temporary Agencies

Definitions of Third Party and Temporary Agencies:

Third Party Agencies are organizations or individuals that recruit candidates for temporary, part time or full time employment opportunities for other organizations rather than for their own organization's internal hiring needs.

Temporary Agencies are organizations that contract (typically short-term) to perform specific tasks or complete specific projects for a client organization. Individuals perform work at the client organization but are employed and paid by the temporary agency.

Policies for Third Party and Temporary Agencies:

Agencies wishing to list a position on the University Career Services web site, PatriotJobWeb, or attend a Fair or other Career Services event must:

  1. State in the job description that you are a third party or temporary employment agency.
  2. State in the job description that any fees assessed by the agency will be paid by the client organization or employer you represent and not by GMU candidates.
  3. Agree that you or your client may not provide GMU students' resumes to any other party without the student/applicant's written consent. Failure to comply with this is a violation of The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
  4. Agree to follow the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) guidelines pertaining to 3rd Party Recruiters: Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals
